You can tell I don't want to do my problem sets

I have three problem sets that I'm putting off in the hopes of... well, I don't know what. But I don't want to do them. Or write some scripts for my lab. So I stole these pictures from my sister's website:

There you go.

Online Stalking of One's Packages.

Probably the best thing that constant internet access has afforded me is the ability to obsessively track packages that are being mailed to me. The shoes I ordered on Sunday, I've just been informed, arrived in Hodgkins, IL yesterday at 5:30 AM, and were sent on their way this morning at 4:11 AM.
You have no idea how exciting this is to me.

blargh

Last night I went to late night with Hoff, his girlfriend, and a freshman on his hall. I got onion rings which I had been craving for like, ... a long time. As Hoff knows because I bugged him about it constantly. Now I can safely assure Hoff that he will not be bugged about onion rings for a LONG TIME, or at least while I can remember the weird queasy feeling I have as a result of ingesting like, a gallon of grease.
Oh, but they were SO good.

Pictures

Pictures! This is what I've been busy doing the past few days.
Wednesday-Friday:
I went to a genetics department retreat in Monterey. It was very cool and I had a good time hanging out with my labmates and making nerdy jokes. On Friday our lab was supposed to participate in a volleyball tournament, but being the wimpy computer scientists that we were (not able to compete with the studly biologists, apparently), we copped out and took a walk down to Fisherman's Wharf. Very fun.... Here's a group picture:

The people are (left to right) Russ (my professor/advisor), Alain (postdoc), Magda (grad student), me, Caroline (staff), Inbal (postdoc), and Genaro (rotation student). I also(AHEM Katherine) smashed a penny... with a sea turtle on it!

Um, this is a funny picture of Alain balancing beer on his head.

Then, on Friday I hauled all my stuff to my dorm. Yay for late night packing/unpacking. I also played with my Mexican jumping beans. Beans!

Finally, on Sunday I moved Matt's futon (which I'm babysitting for awhile--it says hi, Matt) into my room.

And the other side of my room....

That's all for now!

My new obsession + odds & ends

So a little while ago I got um, sort of obsessed with these shoes and let's just say... that after buying a pair of the fuschia floral ones a few weeks ago I now own a brown and pink suede pair and have just ordered a black polka dot pair. What started out as a sensible effort to stop wearing flip flops everywhere has ended in ... wearing Keds ballet flats everywhere. But at least my feet are all covered. And they're all in totally different patterns. And colors. And I don't have a problem at all.
So next on the agenda is declaring my major (bmc) and taking a killer courseload in the fall. I'm taking:
E40 (intro to electrical engineering)
Chem 188 (biochem)
CS 270 (intro to biomedical informatics)
Physics 45 (Physics with calc)
That should be fun. And I'm going to research and hopefully buy a cheap computer and install linux on it. I'm going to the loony bin... but at least I'll have nice shoes!
I also moved into my new room yesterday! My room is awesome, a decently sized two room double--not bad for an unpreferred year of housing. I have a ton of junk in it... probably post pictures once I move my futon in here & make it really decked out. Also, my roommate seems super nice & I have no complaints in that department!
Um, that's about all. My jumping beans got excited when I lofted my bed today, I think they respond to sound also. One of them's been bouncing around and I can hear it tapping. The funny thing is that when I open up the drawer that they're in to look at them tapping, they get scared and play dead. Ha ha.

AURGH!! I have AWESOMENESS!!!

I just got back from Monterey and I HAVE MEXICAN JUMPING BEANS!!!!
I have 6 awesome beans.... ha ha ha ooooooooh.
One of them is a frickin spaz. May have to name that one Matthew.
A few of them are sort of... apathetic. Perhaps they need to be warmed up more.
MY LIFE IS SO MUCH MORE AWESOME THAN YOURS.

Packing and such.

I'm packing for my move back to the Farm on Friday. I'm not actually that together that I started packing super early... I'm leaving for a lab retreat to Monterey tomorrow and getting back on Friday. Meaning that I will have no time to pack on Friday. Meaning that I am packing some stuff now. Meaning that on Friday I will throw everything else haphazard into my Volvo and haul it all to Stanford. Hopefully the weather will be better than today--thunderstorms and rain and COLD! It was all nice and warm and then suddenly started raining. When the lightning was right over our house the power went out... weird. If the lightning hit my house directly, what would have happened? Some sort of fire, I'd imagine.
And I can't find my fake Kate Spade baguette that my sister gave me!!! AURGH! It has to be somewhere in my room but my room is such a mess that it could be anywhere! Blah. My life is misery.
I also cut my hair! Cut off six inches & if I'm smart/patient enough to figure out how to post pictures in this thing, I'll put up a picture! And I used the timer on my camera! And.. and and I'm looking askew in an awesomely angsty/devious way. Ha ha ha.

Ok, I figured it out.. there I am in my room with my Spratt (from Ikea!). And, Katherine, if you're wondering, there's the bag I got from Salvation Army that I take everywhere...the leather messenger bag that you were worried looks Mormonish.

Matt's GONE

I said bye to Matt today.. he's going to Humboldt for a few days and then flying to Chile on Thursday. I was upset.. so I bought some shoes. But they were on sale, so I feel like it was a pretty sensible purchase.
And I get my Mexican jumping beans soon!

Weirdness attack!

Today I hung out with Angela, a good friend of mine from high school who's going abroad TOMORROW for a year... Wow it seems like all the cool people are leaving next school year! We visited our high school like we try to do every year and it was fun but a little weird. My teachers all looked exactly the same, the school looked the same, etc. but all the kids looked like they were 12! Actually, some of them were only 3 years away from being 12! I feel like such an old fart. Weren't people older when we went to high school? It's all going to start again when the frosh get on campus & there's a bunch of little kids running around asking where their IHUM sections are. I plan to buy alcohol for as many of them as possible in the hopes that the substance abuse will make them prematurely age.... hm. Um, actually hopefully I won't be suckered into buying people booze when I turn legal because I'm such a goody two shoes that I'm terrified of getting in trouble.
But school was fun and it was nice to see my old teachers again. I really should go visit them at least once a year because it gives them a lot of satisfaction to see their students not growing up to be crack whores and such. And they were really nice to me. And they have a thankless job that pays like junk even though it's important... but I'm not going to rant.
Now I'm off to go to the REI store (BLECK, I'll complain about that stupid-ass store some other time) with Matt, then going to help him pack. Hopefully we'll also go real shopping (like the Salvation Army!!!!!). Adiossssss

Hell yeah my mom is awesome

My mom rocks... today she invited Matt over for dinner and then later asked if he wanted to spend the night here! Ha ha sweet.
And the funny thing is, she probably thinks we're up to worse things than we really are.. I mean, last time Matt stayed over we stayed up late doing a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle and then he slept in the other room.

Blogging at work like the cool kids do

Okay, so the formatting on this site isn't exactly (read: not at all) like what I want, but I should just post now & fix later.
So, first long-ish post... this is a blog mostly so I can keep in touch better with Matt, who's going to Chile in a few days for 6 months. I feel like it's too much to ask his fuzzy-ness to do a blog also... so whatever, I need to practice HTML anyways. Shit, I'm such a dork.
For those of you who didn't know, I've been working this summer in a Stanford lab doing bioinformatics research. Basically a lot of programming and once in awhile I have to know how proteins fold.. which is good news because I like programming more than bio sometimes. Other than that, I've been hanging out with my friends on campus, hitting up the Halo 2, and trying to see Matt as much as possible before he goes to Chile. And shopping. Ohhh man. The guy at the Salvation Army knows me now, and says, "see you next week" whenever I go in there. Embarrassing!
Hmmm my conscience tells me to keep working... okay, I lied, this isn't a long post after all.

HTML is incredibly frustrating

I'm trying to format my site and it looks all squidgy still. And the changes I'm making aren't showing up! Bwaaaaaa.

Start out with a #!

#!/bin/env python

if __name__ == "__main__":
print "This is megan's first blog post and all she can do is write a crappy python hello world script."
